Well summer hasn't really got started and it'll soon be time for the curling season to start. With the refurbishment of the rink the season is starting a few weeks earlier this year. The Kinross Curling Trust opening bonspiel is on Saturday 12th September. This event is open to all members of the Kinross Curling Trust which is free to join.
On the same day there is a Virtual Bonspiel for virtual clubs from across Scotland at Braehead. Check out the upcoming events page to see who has volunteered to play in this event. Timings for this have still to be confirmed but keep checking for details.
There has been some ongoing refurbishment works over the summer months with the bar & lounge area having had a lick of paint as well as the rink area and changing rooms. Our very own Geoff Thorpe-Tracy has also been busy over the summer installing video cameras over the playing areas so that we can watch the action on the screens installed in the lounge area. There is even the facility to record and broadcast games which might make an interesting end of season event. I was in seeing Steven about ice allocations last week and Geoff was hard at work putting the finishing touches to the installation.
We are finalising the ice allocations and playing intentions for the coming season and I'll be putting a playing calendar on the website in the next week or so. We have our first committee meeting on Thursday so updates will follow. We have a number of invites for friendlies from virtual clubs and local clubs so there will be plenty of opportunities for playing as well as some coaching sessions.
If you have any suggestions for events or friendlies or anything else let me know.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer - if it ever arrives and see you all in September.
George
