February saw a flurry of friendlies against Loch Leven, Boreland and Dollar curling clubs.
The first game against Loch Leven looked like being a tough affair after losing a 1 in the first end (when lying 4) and 4 in the second. KCDC then took two in the third and two singles to trail 4-5 after 5 ends. LL took a single in the 6th end to lead 6-4 going into the final end leaving KCDC the hammer. A strong draw with the final stone of the end squeezed out LL's shot stone leaving KCDC with 3 and a 7-6 win. Well done to George Ponton, Rupert Hancock, Anne McIntyre and Richenda Pearson.
Our next game was against Boreland CC and we were out to avenge a defeat in the club championship. The game went with the hammer for the first few ends with Boreland leading 4-3 after 5 ends. Boreland stole 2 against the head in the 6th for a 6-3 lead. KCDC took 3 in the 7th end leaving the scores tied going into the last end giving Boreland the hammer. Boreland sat an early stone on the button which KCDC froze onto. KCDC's last stone raised a long guard onto the frozen stone removing Boreland's shot stone and leaving us lying 2. This proved to be the game shot with Boreland unable to remove either of the KCDC stones giving an 8-6 victory. Well done to Colin Ballantine, George, Alan Stewart and Gill Gentry.
Our game against Dollar and Devonvale was a double rink encounter with teams skipped by Kirsty Cassells and Colin Bruce. This was a game of mixed fortunes with Kirsty's rink coming up against some ex-KCDC members and Colin's coming up against a couple of skips and an elderly gentleman sporting binoculars to view the house. Kirsty along with Eddie O'Donnell, Sheila Cannon and Jane McFarlane ran out 9-2 winners after 6 ends. Colin's rink (Ian and Liz Fotheringham and Gill Neil) had a reverse losing 9-3. A fun game had by all.
Here's to similar results against Perth and Fife virtual clubs in coming weeks.
